"Sounds good to me," Rodeo grinned obnoxiously, ripping open the packaging and tearing into the jerky, chewing it a bit ostentatiously just because he knew it grossed Charlie out. He snatched another carton of cigarettes, then stepped over the dead leaper to head towards the door.
It brought him slightly closer to Charlie, and it was from that vantage point that he saw the scar and the markings inside. It was too quick for him to read what Charlie had inked there, but he knew it was something significant. She wasn't the sort of girl who did anything for no good reason. He pretended not to notice, but it added yet another layer to the mystery of her that he hoped he'd someday understand.
"You brought extra clothes?" he asked her, pulling the door to the store open and holding it for her. "Real chilly out there, you wanna switch your shirts 'fore we head out?"
