Re: David, Allie, eventually Brandon
A little chuckle escaped and David shrugged a shoulder. "Oh good. Half the allure of a woman is her secrets. That air of mystery and everything," he smirked a little bit. That was far more obvious flirting than he'd done in a long, long time, but with the way she was leaning against him and how comfortable he felt? Well... a little boldness just sort of went with the territory. "I'd say one or two secrets a conversation should do for now." He was fairly certain that the grin on his face wasn't remotely smooth, but that was what he was aiming for.
David knew a little bit about music. He'd taken a year of guitar lessons and knew enough to play three chords. But he'd never really taken too naturally to it. Some people were made for it, and he had to figure that Allie was one of those people. She was talented and confident at what she did, and he was curious. "Are you trained?" he asked her. "Or was it one of those natural things? Because you have a very pretty voice." Talking about something she was passionate about seemed to light up Allie's face, and that kind of light was hard not to appreciate.
It most definitely hadn't been a lie. David saw the situation for what it was. Allie was a beautiful woman; one who radiated this beacon of positive energy that it was hard not to fall into. It was confusing. Everything in his head told him not to think anything of the way she would lean against him or touch him or flirt with him, since she was about a thousand light years out of his league and that sort of came with the territory with female friends. They were touchy-feely, especially with guys like David. But his heart? His heart didn't want to listen. He might have been a little bit crazy, but he felt a spark between them. He grinned a little bit more when she told him that she wasn't embarrassed. She probably didn't know how much that meant to him, but it meant a lot.
Looking every bit the part of the confused puppy, David tilted his head to the side with an eyebrow cocked with Allie bit her lip. Others may have realized what they'd said in that instant, but not David. He still genuinely thought that the conversation was merely about dancing. Which, of course, it was. He smiled and nodded his head, turning his gaze to their entwined hands. "You're the expert here," he pointed out.
The smile on David's face was a combination of satisfaction and shyness. The last time he'd danced was at his cousin Kelsey's wedding, with his Great Aunt Mildred, and Elliot had teased him about it for about two months following. There was no way possible for Elliot to tease him about this. He had a gorgeous girl in front of him, and they were actually, legitimately dancing and having a real, true conversation. David laughed a little bit at her dance rhyme, and willingly followed her lead.
As expected, he stepped on her foot once... a muttered apology and a deep red tint in his cheeks, however, and he just continued. "You're a good teacher," he pointed out. Not that this particular kind of dance was too hard.
After a good minute or so, he got used to it and he barely even thought about what he was doing anymore. He looked at her, the shyness in his smile fading even further. It was too soon to know if they actually liked each other, maybe. But what it wasn't too soon do to was dance a little bit closer. He opened his mouth to speak... but the voice that came out wasn't his own.
He felt a tap on his shoulder, and at about that second, he noticed the tall shadow looming over him. "Mind if I cut in?" the deep voice asked.
