Re: Mike & Kori
For a second it felt like a sick joke -- some kind of awful, wonderful hallucination -- but the moment Mike paused was enough to tell him that yes, somehow it really was Kori standing behind him. Hands over his eyes. She sounded playful, happy; maybe a little drunk, yeah, but so was he. She sounded like his girl.
It would have been intelligent to have doubts, to turn around and ask if she was all right, or act like a gentleman; but despite the seed of fear in his heart, Mike was too pleased at the attention to do much more than play along. Maybe all of this will be over now, and we can act like ourselves again. That would be too easy, surely, but why couldn't it be?
"Hmm..." He reached up to touch her hands, peel them gently away. His voice was clearly amused, though even through his drunken haze Mike knew he sounded more than a little relieved. "Sounds like it could be my girl. Maybe if you whisper something in my ear I'll know for sure."
