"I haven't seen many Wakers, even before I was assigned to the Island. I'd only come in contact with a few and they were killed within seconds once in sight." The only thing Brennan remembered about those Wakers was that they had screamed as they died. He could have sworn one asked 'why?' as well, but none of the others seemed to notice. They just kept walking and so did Brennan. He had been trained to kill on sight, and they'd even discussed the duty to kill survivors that become infected. One of the trainees said that she would refuse and the trainer screamed at her.
"Maybe there is something they use to identify other infected, especially if they are attracted by the sound of the voice. I've never seen an infected that was responding to sound not attack whatever it saw first. I don't know if they really rely on sight for anything." Brennan couldn't remember a time when an infected that had become aware of a living being stop and regard it before attempting to tear them to shreds.
He remained quiet while Ellie regarded the runner that had collapsed.
"We can either go now or wait until morning, though I'm sure that someone might clear the street by then."
He looked at the fallen infected again, taking a look at where it stood in comparison to where they were. It wasn't a terribly long distance, but far enough that there would be no easy way to call for support if they left.
"It can't be more than twenty minutes to get there, but I can't be sure if there's a hoard of them there waiting."
