Sometimes, when David read, he got so into what he was reading that he forgot that the rest of the world around him existed. This book was incredible. It was about a car accident victim, haunting a church. David was curious now, about how often spirits haunted churches. Maybe when he went back to the mainland again, he'd take a trip to a church and check it out. People never found answers to these questions sitting on an island far away from everyone else anyway.
The song had changed now, to Knights of Cydonia, and the pace of the music went very well with the suspenseful part of the story that he was on. David found it difficult to keep the excited expression on his face. He was sitting up straight, staring at the book practically unblinkingly, and because of that, at first, he didn't notice Sarah's approach.
When she started talking, though, he caught on quickly. He glanced up at her, a very obvious deer in headlights expression on his face.
Generally, David was very, very intimidated by women. Beautiful women, even worse. It was a miracle that he wasn't intimidated by Rae, but she was always nice to him, and she had limitless questions about how David and Elliot had grown up. David had plenty of suspicions about Elliot and Rae, none of which had really been confirmed, but they were definitely there.
Sarah, though? Sarah was another story entirely. Not only was she beautiful, but he was fully aware that she could tie him in fifty knots if she so chose, and it scared the hell out of him.
So, when she spoke, he paused and shrugged one shoulder.
"Oh. Um… Muse. Knights of Cydonia," he told her, stuttering more than he realized that he was, and clearing his throat awkwardly. "Wh-what brings you over here?"
