For once Silas was grateful that they didn’t have surveillance cameras this far down near the river, but only because he didn’t want video footage of the forty-five minutes it took him to set up one dome tent floating around. Sure, there was the fact that he’d never set a tent up before to take into account, but he was mechanic he did more difficult things on an almost daily basis, one simple tent with instructions shouldn’t have taken him as long as it had. But it was up now and the sleeping bags he’d found were inside too, so the only person who needed to know how much he’d failed was him.
He’d followed Rae’s instructions too and had grabbed a couple DVDs from his place that he’d seen so many times he could probably recite the dialogue, and lucky for them that the temperatures seemed to be staying warm so it looked less and less likely that they’d end up escaping back to his apartment by the middle of the night. And sure, it wasn’t some rooftop in NYC, but it was still pretty decent.
Maybe soon he’d ask Rae if she was up to going into the city, but probably not for a little while yet. Maybe when it got a little warmer, or stayed warmer for longer periods.
In his search of the supply room he’d even found one of those camp chairs, so he’d hauled that down with the rest of the stuff, and sprawled in it now while he rolled the sleeves of his shirt up and waited for Rae to show. There wasn’t a rush though, he knew that she needed to get EJ settled with April, and who knew how long that would actually take. As much as he was looking forward to it being just the two of them he was also patient enough not to text Rae every five minutes asking her where she was.
