Evan brushed a thumb along her cheek and smiled a little bit. "Don't apologize. I needed to wake up anyway. I never thought I'd sleep too much ever again," he chuckled softly. "If I'd known that the medics had sleeping pills that actually worked, I'd have come to them sooner." He leaned down a little and pressed a kiss to the top of her head.
He helped her sit up and chewed on his lip, thinking about how he'd asked her to stay a night longer than she wanted to in the first place. He felt badly about that, he knew about her aversion to the infirmary and hospitals in general, so it meant a lot that she'd stayed on his request. "Of course. I'll put our things together, okay? If you want to call one of the medics and check us out." He paused. "Or you can pack up and I can talk to a medic. Whichever you'd prefer." The smile he gave was weak and nervous, because he could sense the discomfort she was in.
"Yeah, of course," he tried to let his smile relax a little bit more, but he'd never been good at hiding his moods from Leah. From others, maybe. But from Leah, he wasn't quite so good at it. "You need to move around, too. We just need to keep you from doing anything too strenuous."
Squeezing her shoulder, he took her chin between his fingers and looked her dead in the eye. "It'll be okay," he reassured her with an even, level voice. "And on the way home we can pick Mari up. Bring her home and just go and relax. How does that sound?" he released her chin, but smoothed his thumb along her cheek before he took his hand away.
