He chuckled softly and shrugged a shoulder. “I'm still just the jackass that works on security,” he mused with a little grin. It was definitely a little nerve wracking, but it was true. “But it definitely snuck up on me too. I don't know what the fuck to do about it, because I've only been here a couple times and both those times ended in fucking disaster.” He didn't know if she'd ask or not, but oddly enough, he felt like he could actually tell her about how things had been with Lexi both times. It was probably fair that she knew anyway, considering the discussion they were having now.
“That's definitely true,” he laughed softly about that. It was amusing that people could get over Rae's reputation, but they couldn't get over his. Maybe it was something about how she was more likeable than he was. “I mean... I obviously hope we aren't gonna fuck it up, but...” he trailed off. His history proved that saying that was going to do little more than make sure it was going to happen.
Brandon shrugged. “And you don't know the level of fucked I can reach,” he countered in return, chewing on his lip and breathed in deeply. “Listen. I've got a history of seriously screwing people over. I mean, you're a good person, even if you don't want me to think you are; even if you don't want anyone to think you are. I like you for that reason. But...” he trailed off, then thought for a moment. “Listen. The only chick I've ever seriously dated was Lexi. I liked her. I liked her a lot. But when I was living in the city, I made a couple mistakes and didn't tell her about them. Then she hooked up with David Zimmerman for a few months, and cheated on him with me, and she left. When she came back... well, you saw her when she came back.” He frowned. And then left again without telling him.
He fucked people up. Whether he meant to or not.
Blinking a couple of times, he looked at her wordlessly as she talked at first, only breaking eye-contact to look down at her hand in his shirt. What was she doing? Not that it was an entirely bad thing, he was just way beyond confused, and he didn't know what he was doing with himself right now; what she was doing with him. When he looked back at her, he nodded dumbly, his hand moving up to rest on her waist. “Um... yeah. Sure. What's up?” he asked her.
