“Nope,” the blonde answered, giving a slow shake of her head. “I never claimed to be a good actress. Sorry.” Again, in the same tone she just used.
Leah didn't bother to hold back her own laughter. “Have a little mercy on me. I've already gone soft, and I have a five-year-old and a Frenchman to blame for it.” Hardly a complaint, but it was true. The days of her being a loose cannon seemed to have completely passed. “Unless your plan is to torture your poor friend.”
Fashion wasn't among the topics that Leah knew much about, or, honestly, really cared about, especially in these times, so while she was more than happy to be a sounding board for ideas, she was lacking in any specific suggestions for what the sisters could do together. “Whatever you two decide to do, I'll keep my fingers crossed that it helps you guys sort things out.”
“You say 'wily' I say 'annoying',” Leah teased, her expression smug.
“Yeah,” Leah agreed, glancing down. “I'm on the fence about it. Like I said, I haven't asked so I don't know what's going on between them, but I am hoping it won't be my brother's usual casual fuck habit, for more than just my own selfish reasons. I've always wanted him to just be happy, to find someone who can get through to him and make him happy.”
Infirmary? No, no, she didn't want to go to the infirmary. Not without Evan. It was too soon for this to be happening. “I... I don't need to. I'm...” The infirmary wasn't an official hospital, no, but the idea of going there – of being taken there – scared her beyond what she'd contemplated before. It was different when she was visiting somebody else in the infirmary. Being a patient herself, well...
Another wave of pain made her cry out and clench her teeth. “I can... I think I can move. Just not fast.” She wasn't so sure if she hoped she could move. Having the baby on the roof was less scary than being put in a makeshift hospital room. Bracing herself with one hand on the picnic table and the other clutching Vienna's, Leah struggled to her feet, taking the opportunity to move before another contraction stopped her.
