Honestly, the girls didn't really make him do anything. And they were a lot more helpful than they were leading the older girl to believe right now, but he wouldn't smash their little plan. Eventually, they'd learn that pretending to be someone they aren't to impress someone else wouldn't work, but that was a lesson that only time would teach them. "I have a brother," Emma said, looking in Toby's direction with a nod. "He's only annoying when he acts all adulty."
"I'm not annoying," Elisa scoffed. She looked at Toby, too, then back at Maddie. "How many brothers do you have?" she asked. "Zach is one of them, I know." At that question, Toby chewed on his lip. He knew that the relationship between Maddie and Dillon was strained, and he hoped that she didn't take the question poorly.
Emma's eyes lit up. "Band?" she asked. "What kind of band? What kind of music do you play?" she asked excitedly. "Little kids get to play? Isn't it dangerous?" Kori's influence there. Formerly, she wouldn't have batted an eyelash at that thought.
With a shrug, Elisa bit her lip and looked down. "I dunno how to use a real gun." And they wouldn't for a little while yet, if Toby could avoid it. Though, with Emma's age, he didn't know how long he'd be able to keep her from curiously venturing out of the compound, he still wanted to avoid that minefield for a little while longer. "Is it loud?" she asked. Ever the thousand questions, his girls had.
Her defensive posture was met with a relaxed posture, and a smile. Toby understood why she was the way she was, a lot of the time. He wouldn't have been very good at his job, otherwise. He held his hands up in mock surrender and then waved a greeting. "It's okay," he reassured her.
"That makes sense," he nodded his head. "Think you'd mind taking my two here onto your team?" he offered. "They're pretty good teamworkers and good listeners, so they'll take orders pretty well." He hoped it was something of an olive branch, since Maddie was one of the people who was wary of him. He knew that much.
