"Just this way," he said softly, walking along beside her as he made his way through the rows of sleeping bags, "We've staked out a little corner of the room over here. One of the perks of being some of the first people here I guess. We got to claim walls at our backs." Seemed silly now to think that you would be grateful for sleeping with a wall at your back. How priorities have changed.
"I figure it's good to know the sort of people that you're surrounding yourself with. After all, we're all relying on each other these days and if you can't trust the people you're sleeping beside... then that's sort of a problem." He rather liked the group they had here though. Most of them seemed pretty trustworthy anyways. "She is your age, yes. You two should talk sometime. George... gets lonely sometimes, I can tell. Sometimes it's just her against the world, you know? I think you two would really get along actually."
They made it to the Marchands corner and he sat down at the top of his bedroll, patting the end for her to sit on as he grabbed his board and started to set it up. "I love chess. I think it's so much more entertaining than simply watching television or doing some other frivolous hobby. Not that we can really watch TV anymore..."
"I'm sorry about your brother being away. I'm sure he'll be back soon. You must be worried. I know I go crazy with worry every time Evan goes out. But if he's immune, I'm sure he'll be just fine." He finished setting up the board and smiled across at her, "Your move first."
