“Not surprising, I mean it’s been a long time since I’ve seen a lot of things,” Regan had to figure sooner or later they wouldn’t see any of this stuff anymore. “Suppose it’s a happy surprise then, to find something like that.” Funny how sometimes those ‘happy surprises’ could still happen, though they were few and far between. Laughing at Toby’s reply, he definitely didn’t take any offense to the other man’s honest answer. “You probably shouldn’t, I know next to nothing about raising kids,” and he was going to ignore that pang of sadness at the idea that he’d never be a father now. “Seems a bit like you’ve got your hands full with them.”
Regan was relieved when Toby allowed the subject change, not pressing him to talk. “Kori’s always been kind of like that,” there was a fondness in his tone, even if he hadn’t spoken to her yet since getting back, she was still family to him. “And I don’t think your girls could have chosen a better role model, honestly.” Or maybe they didn’t chose her, but his opinion still stood.
He listened intently as Toby seemed to be analyzing the spray painter on some level, taking in his insight into the situation. “Whoever’s doing this can barely qualify as human in my opinion, because good people don’t go doing shit like this to other good people.” Maybe it was an idealistic outlook on things, but he really did think that if this person had an ounce of a conscious they wouldn’t be doing this. “It’s almost as bad as that gossiper they had going around earlier this year.” Though nobody had heard form that person in months, which was a blessing. “Right, although we don’t really know what this person is capable of.”
Sighing softly, he nodded. “Honestly, I can’t say that you’re wrong.” Both men had been equally targeted, and Regan thought that Toby’s observation that it could be a jealousy thing might not be that far off. “Wonder if we should start asking around about people’s past, might give us a couple leads to go on.” The only person he was aware of that had once been in a position of power was the new medic Ty, and he didn’t really strike Regan as the vandalizing type or the awful message leaving type. “And if I were to guess I’d say they’ll hit the cafeteria ladies, because a person would have to be an idiot to wind up in the cross hairs of Brandon or Silas.” Or him to a lesser degree.
“It’s the end of the world and people can still find petty things to complain about,” which boggled his mind, but he had given up trying to understand that a long time ago.
