A tiny part of Rae dreaded the potential for EJ thinking Topher was his daddy. Not because she didn't think Topher would be a good daddy, but because EJ's real daddy had been amazing, and she figured Topher didn't want that kind of responsibility. But that tiny part of her was easily quelled as she watched them now. The idea of all the trouble they could get into made Rae chuckle a little bit. "Lucky for you, I think the two of you are the cutest things ever, and I already pre-planned for all the trouble." She kissed Topher on the cheek, and then EJ, and chuckled again. "Wouldn't be much fun if there was no trouble ever, right?" she asked, winking and wetting her lips.
"I actually almost look forward to the trouble. Kind of. A little." She paused, then said, "until it becomes pranks on me. Then there will be serious trouble."
As if he was reading the cues, EJ's well-behaved fingers reached out for the mask to try and pull it off. Rae chuckled. "I think he understands more than we give him credit for, Topher." She offered her hand out to take the mask. "I can put it in the diaper bag," she offered. The diaper bag felt a little heavier than usual today, and Rae stumbled slightly as she walked. "Does that same philosophy apply for other articles of clothing, by the way? Because, you know..." she wagged her eyebrows playfully.
She smiled. "Kori's pretty good at guessing sizes. I don't think we needed to do any alterations to my costume once she finished it. She's a genius, I swear." Rae trailed off and, as much as she tried not to, she caught his sarcasm. Not only did it earn him a Look, but she shook her head. "You are a good guy," she insisted. "A wonderful guy. My wonderful guy, who I love with all my heart. Just because you've made some mistakes doesn't make you any less wonderful, either." And that was as far as she wanted to go with that. She latched onto the topic of horror movies, instead. "We should have a horror movie marathon sometime. Just so, you know, I can bury my face in your shoulder and act like a total girl. We'll have to put American Psycho on the list, because it's a creepy classic."
The second kiss made her smile, and she pressed a brief one to EJ's forehead as well. Her two favorite men. "Good. Just making sure you remember."
That sound he made caught Rae's attention and she turned to look at him, gauging his reaction for a moment before she stepped up to him.
"I did," she answered softly. "I'd been toying with the idea for a little while now, but I couldn't think of the right time to hand it over. Now, though... now seems pretty perfect to me."
She paused and laughed when he tried to suggest that it was for someone else. "No," she insisted. "It's all yours. I knew that it was something you'd like, something you'd get some use out of. And I couldn't think of anything else more perfect, so..." she glanced at the bike with a wistful smile. Barely a year ago, she'd given it to Elliot. And now... God, I hope things don't end the same... she thought to herself. If he left her, if he died on her... she didn't know if she could recover.
