He laughed a little bit. "Extra diaper change duty for Auntie George? And maybe every burp when she's here." He didn't really mean that, of course, because being a dad meant that was part of the deal. But it was an amusing joke to make all the same. "To be honest, though, I don't know as though those are even unpleasant jobs. Just... messy and kind of stinky ones." He chuckled.
Scratching his head, he nodded his head. "I understand, believe me," he explained. "But we do well with Mari..." Or at least they did the best they could. That didn't mean he wouldn't worry, but at least he was worrying a little bit less now. "We'll make it through. We always do, don't we?" One way or another, they always managed to make it through.
Agreed to it. Evan chuckled a little bit and shrugged. "I think you'll like it after awhile," he told her, his smile softening a little bit as he listened to her rationalize why she agreed to a puppy. "I know. But I never felt right having pets in the city. People back there were monstrous, cher. And I wasn't around to care for a puppy like Georgette was. It wouldn't have felt right, getting one for me when I was so busy going from safehouse to safehouse, you know?" He laughed a little at the thought of Marigold with a large dog like Eloise's. "We talked about something like a collie or maybe a Yorkie?" he asked. He didn't want to overthink it right now. It was Mari's decision in the end, so he didn't want to be too overbearing when it came to the whole thing. "Mari will be responsible about it, I think. We'll go over a chore wheel with her. Maybe I can color code it, so she can tell what means what." Maybe.
With a chuckle and a nod, Evan shrugged. "I think everyone in the city is glad to sort of be away from their family now. We were all crammed in like sardines, like you said. Even if things between George, Daniel and I are tense right now, at least we aren't constantly at one another's throats like we were in the city." He shrugged. "We need to make an effort to get together as families more. Even if things aren't normal, even if things aren't always peachy, that doesn't mean we shouldn't spend time together." That said, he was still hesitant to contact everyone; still hesitant to be the one to set the wheels in motion.
She was lying, Evan could tell that much. But he understood that sometimes, some things you just didn't want to talk about. His expression likely told her that he knew that, but he didn't ask her to continue. Instead, he said, "if you say so," and looked at the wall of canvas in front of him. He chuckled and shook his head no. "Not too troll dollish, no. It's got character. She'll love it," he poked her in the shoulder and grabbed the green paint to start filling in some of the outlines.
"Such cruelty." He sighed heavily. "I don't know how I deal with it."
Evan chuckled a little bit. "I broke into my non-toxics," he pointed out. "Figured it'd be nice of me to give you more than hanging low things to do. Aren't I so kind?" he asked playfully.
