"A moderate deal?" he joked, then shrugged when she suggested that he hid his nerves well. "Practice. When I used to plan gallery openings, I felt like my guts were twisting and tying in knots every time, but eventually I got used to it." He paused, then added, "this is kind of a different kind of nervous, but it's on the same plane." Maybe. It made sense in his head, anyway. "Am I at least allowed to lose my head a little? I thought that was one of my inalienable rights of fatherhood or something."
Sometimes, with all the changes they'd made to the place, Evan had an easy time forgetting that they were in a prison. Compared to the city, it felt more like home. "I'd love to be able to provide you with a house, cher." His idea of moving into Ossining came into his head, but he was sure there were limitless reasons that it just wasn't plausible, which was why he hadn't brought it up again. "More than almost anything, I'd love to be able to do that." But he couldn't. She reminded him of Brandon's housing project and he perked up a little. "I'd honestly forgotten about that," he chuckled a little bit. "Everyone should feel more comfortable when that gets off the ground. The people in apartments can move to houses and the people in cells can move to apartments..." The thought made him smile. "I hope he gets it off the ground soon," he added.
It was a worry that they'd, not purposely, naturally, ignore the little blonde girl in favor for the infant. He knew that they'd do whatever they could to prevent it from happening, but there was only so much they could do. "It's as exciting as it is nerve-wracking though, isn't it?" he asked with a little grin.
He laughed a little. "I don't know, irrational rush Leah is sort of cute," he said. "Although to be nervous right now isn't the best idea, I guess." He felt his mouth turning up into a smile and his eyes fell to where her hand was on his. "I've been doing my best, cher. And I'll continue to." As long as he could.
"Here I was thinking that you appreciated the pregnancy glow," he teased her with a little smirk. "I think you look beautiful. Just for the record." He paused, before adding, "you always look beautiful." He chuckled and nodded his head as he took the stencil out of her hand. "Can do. Pick three Dr. Seuss characters, by the way. Your three favorites." He made stencils of basically all of them, so any that she chose, he could work with. "And I'll put those ones up first."
