our conversations ain't long but you know what is (fearisgone) wrote in immune_ic,
Jax started looking around. At least Jake hadn't told him to go away. Maybe this was an opportunity to try to get to know the guy a little better. Since Jax didn't have a sister, he didn't really get the whole overprotective thing. "I bet there's people here who can repair stuff," he said. "The dudes in the garage, maybe?" It made sense to him. Engines were probably reasonably similar. He picked up something that he couldn't identify, shrugged and then put it down again.
Honestly, Jax wasn't that interested in why Jake was in here, but it was something to talk about. Making conversation was an art he didn't typically have trouble with. No, Jax could talk to anyone, until they often wished he'd stop. But on the positive side, he never ran out of things to say. "I always thought it'd be cool to do landscaping stuff," he said idly, thinking of the guys he used to see riding those stand-up mowers and planting loads of shrubs and flowers at one time. "It'd beat sitting in an office."
The completely unsubtle segue had Jax's head turning so he could look at Jake. Really? Had the guy been planning to interrogate him the next time he caught him alone? It wasn't that Jax minded so much, but it put him in mind of the old jokes about some girl's dad having a shotgun in hand when her date came to the door. "December," he said without really having to think about it. That was when he and Nick had drank to excess in one of the guard towers and kissed each other's faces off. He definitely considered that the beginning of being together.
