With a quick sweep of his arm Jake motioned for the kid to go ahead and take a look. There was plenty to explore at Sing Sing it seemed. Even in the few short months since Jake arrived, he still hadn’t made a dent in all the places he wanted to check out. As guarded as he was around Jax, he wasn’t going to begrudge him his curiosity. At least not for the time being, he was still reserving judgment. “Mostly a bunch of run down equipment. Some of it can probably be repaired, what can’t well, it’ll be sort of like a hunt by need or something.” Of everything it was the mower that needed the quickest repairs if he was going to get started with that groundskeeping job.
As much as he really wanted to like the kid, and he really did for his sister’s sake, it was his need to protect her from just about everything that kept him on edge. He was glad though that the kid had enough sense not to poke the proverbial sleeping bear with a stick. It would be a quick way to get himself into a fight with Jake and somehow he doubted Nick would be very happy with either one of them in that event.
“Something like that,” he admitted rubbing the back of his neck with his right hand. “I was landscaper before everything went to pot, might as well keep up the trade as best as possible here.” He doubted he really had to explain, somehow he didn’t think that Jax was really all that interested in Jake’s plans plant trees and grass and build forts when the trees were big enough to support the extra weight.
Which really left only one other option didn’t it?
“So you and my sister. How long have you two been…seeing each other I guess is the best way to say it.” He’d get to the ‘what are your intentions toward Nick’ question in a minute right now he was going to gather background information.
