In his darker moments, Jax often wondered if there would be any more of life to see, really. It wasn't something he liked to think about, but he knew it was possible that he might not live to see thirty. The infected might grow stronger in number and completely take over. Maybe now was all there was, and he felt like he had the experience of a person twice his age, in some ways.
Jax had never had an actual relationship before this, but he couldn't imagine wanting to be with someone else besides Nick. He had no way to know how long it would last, but maybe that was something he wouldn't think about, either. No point in borrowing trouble. He grinned at Zach. "According to my dad, the timetable is whatever the girl wants it to be," he said. He'd been taught a lot about treating women right and letting them set the pace when it came to anything sexual.
When Zach handed him the condoms, he said, "Thanks, man. You're a lifesaver." The heat in his cheeks had mostly cooled by now. Jax opened the box and stuck one strip of condoms in each jeans pocket, then glanced around and tossed the box into the nearby waste can. Not like he wanted to run around carrying a Trojan box. With his luck, he'd run into someone like Maddie or maybe even Nick's brother. Yeah, that didn't seem like a good plan. "You've done your part to prevent apocalypse babies." With a cheeky grin and a wave, he headed for the door.
