Snapping out of his thoughts, Zach hoped Jax hadn’t noticed the way he jumped when the younger man poked his head into the storage room. That was the thing about getting lost in thought, it was real damn easy to lose track of your surroundings. And lose focus. Like he had that day he went out to find Gordy. Shoving that to the back of his mind, he plastered on a half-smile and tried to contain the eye roll that wanted to surface at the use of that nickname. "Hey, Kid," he greeted him, before asking. “What’s with you and Maddie and your fascination with that nickname?”
What was up? Fuck. That question brought on a whole list of things that were currently going on with him. But none of which were things he needed to burden a nineteen-year-old kid with. “Oh you know, just surviving a zombie bite.” He answered, the smirk turning up the corners of his mouth.
Motioning for Jax to step into the storage room further, he decided to turn the tables and get the focus off of him and onto the younger man. It was easier talking about other people and what they had going on in their lives than it was to confess to everything fucking with his currently. “So, what brings you this way?” He pressed his back up against the shelves and crossed his arms over his chest, trying to look relaxed and at ease, instead of tense and worried. “Did you come by to regale more of the nurses with one of your stories?” Zach had to admit Jax’s visit while he had been in quarantine had been the most amusing one of all. The kid knew how to tell a story, and had way too much energy for one person.
