Nodding her head, April found she understood exactly what Maddie was saying. Most people could be alone, but it wasn’t preferred. After all she had survived on her own for a while, but she wouldn’t want to go back to living that way, not at all. “No, and it seems that fact has increased since the world starting ending,” or at least she thought it had. “So I don’t think anyone can fault you for feeling that way.” She definitely didn’t, not when she had a tendency to feel the exact same way.
April laughed softly at the saying that Maddie quoted; it had been years since she heard anyone say that. “No, they can’t,” she agreed with a smile. “And people shouldn’t have to change who they are just to make others happy.” She might be one of a few people that felt that way, but it was her opinion and she was sticking to it. That was part of the reason she liked DJ, he didn’t expect her to be anyone but who she was.
“Oh, I won’t just try, I’ll totally succeed,” April answered confidently. “But technically if you won wouldn’t it be Maddie: 2, April: 0? Since you already won the drinking contest.” They were counting that one, right?
Shaking her head, April laughed. “No, I can sit,” she paused as she shifted on the one crutch again. “But I’ve been doing enough sitting and laying around for the last three weeks, so standing is actually a nice change of pace.” Maybe that reasoning only made sense to her, but it was what it was. “Okay.” She eyed the dart board for a moment before throwing her first dart, sighing just a little bit in frustration as the dart landed just right of the center of the board.
