Tilting her head to the side, April pondered what the other girl had said. The woman talking to plants thing was weird, but she supposed some of the things she did could be considered strange as well. What interested her was the first part of Maddie’s words, the part where it almost sounded like the other girl was admitting to being one of those people who didn’t like being alone. “So your either crazy or you’re actually a part of the group of people who don’t like to be alone,” she commented, not exactly calling Maddie out – but trying to get some kind of answer out of the other girl.
Nodding her head, she really couldn’t deny that taking things in the literal sense could be dangerous. “True, but I can’t really change who I am,” April answered easily. “Sometimes it does, yeah.” But not everything – sometimes like Maddie had pointed out it only made things worse.
If April had known Maddie’s feelings when it came to DJ’s writing, well, she probably would have felt guilty on some level. So it was probably a good thing that she was more than oblivious to the way Maddie was feeling at that moment, because things were already awkward between them, so they didn’t need anything else making this whole ‘getting to know each other’ situation any more challenging.
“Pretty much,” she answered with a faint grin and a shrug of her shoulders. “I have to redeem myself somehow, right?” April hadn’t really been bothered by the fact Maddie had beat her at the drinking contest, but it was still fun to play up competition for competitions sake. “Great, be prepared to lose.” She remarked as she took the darts Maddie handed her and tried to balance awkwardly with one crutch so that she could free up her other arm to throw the darts.
