Maddie sighed when April pointed out that she'd been alone. “Sometimes I like hanging out alone. I don't always have to be around someone.” Hardly the truth, but the other girl didn't need to know that. “Today it just happens to be a solo game of darts.”
Luke was stubborn; Maddie definitely couldn't argue with that. She nodded. The question about Zach's sexuality had her shaking her head. “No. Not that I know of, anyway. It was a joke.” A very good joke, in her opinion. The lack of mutual amusement didn't do anything to help her mood. Maybe they just didn't understand one another's sense of humor.
“Reading is very boring.” Maddie couldn't remember the last time she tried to read a novel all the way through. “But yeah, he could be writing, too. More poetry, maybe.” Maybe something she could turn into another song and understand him better.
She threw another dart at the board. One eyebrow rose at April's question. She'd told April where DJ probably was, so why wasn't she leaving? That had been her whole basis for coming to the rec room, hadn't it? “Thought you wanted to find my brother?”
