There were no words for how excited April was to be able to move around on her own again. Sure, it kind of hurt at the moment and she felt more unbalanced on the crutches then she felt without them. But the look Dr. Samson had given her when she had suggested she not use the crutches was enough to get her to rethink throwing that suggestion out there again. She supposed that if nothing else she had weapons with her at all times and at least someone in medical had managed to find her a pair of crutches that actually fit her, which you know she had to figure was tough since she was below average in height.
With her newfound freedom she had decided to escape the apartment in search of DJ. If she had been thinking ahead she would have texted him, but she hadn’t been thinking, so instead she went to the first place she figured she might be able to find him. The Rec room.
At the time of her spur of the moment decision to go out in search of DJ it had seemed like the most obvious place to find him, but as she stepped through the door and was met with a mostly empty room, she realized her assumption had been entirely wrong.
But my lucks not awful. She thought as she caught sight of Maddie, and giggled softly to herself when she realized that she must have been the person who had thought her walking sounded like a drunken one-legged pirate. April had learned quickly though not to say anything about most of what she heard from people’s thoughts, it generally made them uncomfortable.
“Hey,” She moved as well as she could over towards Maddie, figuring that she might as well greet the other girl since she was here and maybe she would know where DJ was. Leaning on her crutches heavily as she came to a stop, she tried to keep any hint of discomfort off her face as she spoke. “This place seems kind of dead…” Conversation or normal conversation had never been April’s strong suit, and probably never would be. But at least she hadn’t made some joke about a rematch on the whole drinking contest – the first time around had ended with both of them severely hung over, a state which April didn’t want to revisit.
