“They do,” she responded with a nod. “Especially Mari. It's probably the easiest way to keep her occupied.” And keep her from wandering where she shouldn't be wandering. Her words were both an explanation and a vague compliment. She didn't think anyone else would've indulged in the game. Hell, no one else had even bothered to stop Mari from running around.
A curious frown followed Luke's phrasing of 'not on her feet'. Leah still didn't know the extent of April's injuries, only that she wasn't able to get around on her own. Evan wasn't able to walk around much either. “It's good that she's getting out early, isn't it? You'll be able to take care of her more easily and she'll probably be more comfortable in her own bed.”
Oh, that's right. Brandon was there with her... “Yeah, that was Brandon.” She staved off a comment about her brother only doing it because it was expected of him. It would've been untrue; he'd done it for more reasons than that. Leah didn't want to be spiteful right now. She hadn't appreciated when Luke shrugged off her gratitude, but she wasn't going to do the same. Deep down, Leah knew that concern for family was more important.
