Luke half-grinned, rising to his full height behind the small child.
"Thought she'd stay in one place if we hid," he mumbled with a nod. "Kids like games, right?"
Right. He knew he wasn't exactly the first person anyone would think of if they needed a babysitter, but he wasn't completely heartless. Children were probably the only people in the compound who could be guaranteed gentleness from Luke, even if he didn't personally know them. Maybe it was something to do with their innocence, the way they processed their feelings and experiences; it reminded him that things hadn't always been quite how they were. How they are.
Leah asked after his sister, and he shrugged. "Better. She's leaving the infirmary early. Still... not on her feet."
Blue eyes narrowed slightly in thought. "It was your brother, I think. Saved her and carried her back."
