“I’ve heard.” Bea had heard it was some pretty serious animosity, but she wasn’t going to poke around getting details from Brandon because she didn’t need them. Things were tense between Brandon and Elliot, so what? Now wasn’t then, and things had to move on. And not everyone got along. “You’d be better off learning fucking first aid. Then you wouldn’t have to explain shit.” She knew basics because of Ty and the fact that until she’d been forced into needing to be in the government safehouses they hadn’t had a dedicated medical staff.
Bea nodded. “I picked up on that,” she replied. It’s probably what made Evan a better leader than the rest of them. She laughed a little at the statement about Leah. It seemed exactly in character for her to be doing that. “Not sure I blame her really. If I had someone to look out for I’d probably do the same fucking thing.” Even if she got the feeling sometimes that the people she cared about –Vienna- didn’t think that she actually did. She shook that thought away though because she didn’t know how to fix it and thinking about it just ticked her off.
Of course. All of that made sense. She hadn’t been thinking that they were down a man. Shit, maybe she should have been. “The patrol files are in the top left drawer,” she offered. “I shuffled things around a couple days ago.” Because there hadn’t been a hell of a lot do in the office at the time.
She was at a loss to how to respond to that. She wasn’t going to give some bullshit line to him, because she didn’t know what Leah’s headspace was like right now. Maybe she should have known, because they were friends, but she didn’t. “Ten minutes, that’s all I’m asking. Long enough to get coffee and come back,” she said instead.
And sighed inwardly when he relented. She was prepared to stick her ground, but it was easier if she didn’t have to try so damn hard. “I’ll make sure we come back with a couple carafes,” she replied. “And food for Leah. Maybe Evan too, since he’s awake.” She’d never been forced to survive the food in the infirmary, but if it was anything like traditional hospitals, the food from the cafeteria would be a welcome change.
Without any more discussion, Bea turned on her heel, trusting entirely that Brandon would fall into step with her. She didn’t know why she’d taken such an interest in making sure he got out of there for a while, but she had and it was almost a relief when they cleared the main doors and were out in the hall. “Fuck, you’d think staff would be easier to find in there,” she muttered, kind of out of the blue, but hell, she wasn’t good at small talk either. “You were the first person I saw in that whole damn place.”
