A laugh, weak in comparison to his usual cocky and robust laugh, escaped and Brandon gave a smile that matched it in its genuine sadness. "Been down that road before, though it was for my face and not my ass," he mused with a little grin. "Got punched, and had to explain it to a medic..." he paused and snorted, remembering that Zimmerman the Oldest had been that particular medic. Probably why he'd laughed. "They weren't as sympathetic as a medic should be to someone asking for first aid shit," he smirked a little at the memory. He and Zimmerman may have never gotten along, but he missed the guy sometimes. Even if he'd been keeping Brandon's best friend from his girl.
That's a fucked up thought, he mused inwardly. Since he'd been a pretty vocal opposer of Rae and Silas' relationship.
Brandon nodded his head. "Yeah," he said. "Marchand... uh, Evan... he woke up, and so did Silas." Of course, he didn't mention that he hadn't been in to see his best friend yet, but that was another matter entirely. "It's a load off, that's for sure. I don't think either of them are totally out of the water yet, but..." It was a good thing neither of them had died, because Brandon was pretty sure the consequences would've been pretty damn hellish. "Except Marchand knows about the spray painters." As much as Brandon tried to call Evan by his first name, sometimes old habits died hard.
"Well, I was waiting for Silas to wake up," he told her with a shrug. "But also, the Nichols girl. I found her and brought her back, so..." he wanted to make sure that she woke up okay. He wasn't trying to be martyrous or anything like that. Just trying to be there for the people who needed him now. "When she wakes up, I'll probably head back to the security room." After that, Alghren probably had it all under control.
When she spoke up again, Brandon's eyes lifted from the floor—he wasn't generally a downlooker, but with the way things were going, he couldn't help but feel that way—and shrugged. "I shouldn't leave my sister here," he said, potentially telling where he'd been spending all of his time, instead of in Silas' room. "I mean... she's..." He didn't know exactly where he was going with that.
Of course. She offers to keep him company, and it's the one time that he'd probably be the worst company out there. "I don't know," he murmured. It had been a long time since he was this out of sorts. Since after Leah was bitten, probably.
