Maybe they were winning this thing, maybe they would come out of it the victors, but right now as Regan hoisted Silas’ prone body off the ground, all he could think about was how too many things seemed to be going wrong here. That whatever well thought out plan they thought they had had was lost in the wind now – discarded when that shot had been fired and Silas had crumpled to the ground.
Pulling himself out of his thoughts, Regan registered Rae’s answer that she was ready. Maybe if Silas life didn’t hang in the balance he would have taken the time to ask her if she as okay, if she could handle this, but with Brandon off finding the source of that scream, Rae was his only help so he just needed to assume she was okay.
Where was Brandon? He could only answer that question in a abstract manner. That they had heard a girl scream and Brandon had left to investigate (and possibly save) whoever the screamer might have been.
“He heard a scream and find to figure out who it was,” he answered as he tightened his grip on Silas and began moving down the street. “He’ll catch up, don’t worry about it.” If there was one thing Regan knew, it was that his friend could handle himself.
Glancing sideways he looked at Rae over Silas’ head. “Everything’s going to be okay.” It was about the most comforting that he could be in that moment, so he only hoped it would be enough.
