wordy vienna is wordy.
The similarities between Noah and Thomas were next to non-existent. So in a lot of ways Vienna had no idea how to approach this situation, with Thomas she would have yelled, and probably smacked him by now – but Noah wasn’t Thomas and they weren’t a couple. So did she even have any right to be upset? Maybe not. But the bridge had already been crossed and she couldn’t just stop being upset, it wasn’t that easy.
“Maybe now it was just talking,” Vienna muttered, crossing her arms over her chest again. At the next words that came out of Noah’s mouth, she almost wasn’t sure if he wanted a reply or some kind of reaction. She wasn’t shocked though, he was fighting back – which confirmed this was a fight. “No,” her answer was clipped, but it was an answer. “All that proves is you didn’t sleep with him today.” There was no way to not sound like a possessive girlfriend, even if that wasn’t what she was – Vienna had never made any claims to being good at sharing.
Reading Noah was nearly impossible. He kept serious emotion under lock and key, and in this moment all Vienna’s gaze was met with what a stony expression and a defensive posture. Part of her wanted to drop all of this, to rewind everything to before she had decided to come here – to preserve whatever she did have with Noah. Because in this moment she wasn’t sure where this was going, but she didn’t want to lose him. At the core of things that had to be why she was angry, she cared about Noah on more than just a casual level….and she felt that threatened by someone else.
“Well, I haven’t slept with anyone else, either.” She shot back, “I didn’t want to sleep with anyone else.” Vienna hadn’t meant to say that, not aloud anyway. A scowl slipped onto her face at his words. How had she jumped to that conclusion? It hadn’t looked like nothing, it had looked like something. “It wasn’t hard to jump to that conclusion, Noah,” she snapped. “He was practically sitting in your lap, and the way he was touching you was familiar, and not in a ’we’re friends’ kind of way.” Vienna pointed out as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. “So what was I supposed to think?” Only a beat went by before she added. “Especially when he was putting off pretty heavy ‘fuck me’ vibes.” That would have been obvious to anyone, so did Noah just not notice or did he just ignore it? When he spoke again she wasn’t sure if the words were comforting or not.
Noah had lived with the guy, been with him. That meant at one point he had done the whole relationship thing, so had this ex turned him off of it…or was it her? Maybe she had just been a rebound. “Well, it looks like your ex would like to try again,” Vienna snarled. “So don’t let me stand in your way or anything.” So much for ending this before she got hurt. She could already feel that first tell tale sign that she was going to cry. When had she let Noah get under her skin so much?
Turning away from him, she wrapped her arms around herself protectively as she stared at a spot on the wall, focusing on anything but Noah. “I’m just the idiot that went and formed feelings for you, after all.” All of the fight was gone from her now. If he wanted someone else she wasn’t going to stop him.
