Celebrating her birthday had kind of become something Nick didn’t really bother with. Last year Levi had given her a little gift, but beyond that she had kept it mostly quiet. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to celebrate; it just wasn’t really in her nature to seek out all that attention. Plus, sharing your birthday with a commercialized holiday kind of overshadowed it sometimes, or at least that was kind of how Nick felt. Still, she knew she probably needed to get out of the habit of not telling people when her birthday came around, after all she had people here who cared about her and would probably be offended if she didn’t say anything. Jake sort of took care of the whole telling people thing, though. What with the intranet post telling people to wish her a happy birthday. Which yeah, she kind of winced at the whole compound now knowing his nickname for her, but it was also kind of great to have him do that. This was what she missed about having her brothers around, and Jake in particular had always been freaking awesome at making her feel special. Nick couldn’t entirely remember when it was she and Jax decided to hang out today, but she was trying not to over think if it was weird to be spending her birthday and Valentine’s day with the guy she was kind of, sort of seeing. Were they seeing each other or dating, though? That was a question she still hadn’t found the nerve to ask him. Chewing on her lower lip, she tried not to focus on that fact as she moved down the corridor towards Jax’s cell. Maybe we don’t even need a label. She thought as she pushed her hair over her shoulder. Or maybe this is all just a way to pass the time. A scowl crossed her features as she thought that. She wasn’t using this as a way to pass the time, so she shouldn’t think Jax was either. Before she knew it she was standing just outside of Jax’s cell and trying to fight down whatever little voice in the back of her mind may have been telling her that spending time alone in his cell could be a dangerous idea. And oh my god, she was totally not going to get weird about being alone with him, even if her stomach did a nervous little flip at the idea that something could happen. Was she ready for that? “Stop it,” she muttered to herself as she tugged on the hem of her jacket and fidgeted with a loose string on one of the cuffs. “You’re acting like a nervous girl again.” She chided herself, reaching up her free hand to rap on the doorframe of Jax’s cell. “You better answer your door in ten seconds or I’m coming in,” she called. “And I won’t care if you’re decent or not.” |
