Rae turned to look at Andreas with a bit of a chuckle, noting that sleep was getting easier for him. That was good. Rae had been worried for awhile, that he'd never really be able to sleep again. However, with the snoring that easily echoed throughout the whole of the room, she almost wished that he would wake up or something. "Oh, tell me about it," she muttered. "Growing up, you could hear him from any room in the house. He woke himself up once," she added with an amused chuckle.
The "contest" between Elliot and the book wasn't really a contest. Given the chance? Eli would always, always win. She looked down at the book, then at him, and she smiled a little more genuinely now. "Oh come on, you know you're way better company than a book," she told Eli, not even an ounce of insincerity in her voice. "I mean, if you want to try and get back to sleep, then obviously sleep is better company than Rae, but…" she ducked her head. She didn't want to admit that she needed the calming effect that Eli always had on her right then.
She could see him quite clearly, thanks to the light that the moon cast from the window and the fact that she was from a higher vantage point. He looked troubled, too. She wondered what was troubling him. Maybe if he came out into the hall with her, she could find out.
It was hard not to laugh aloud, with the way Elliot played right into David's sleep-talking. Somehow, though, she managed. Even though she was still silently laughing into her hand. David's muttering continued. "No, no… they're rotten. The clown has to burn them and use the ash to…" he trailed off, rolling over and covering his head.
"Aw man, now we'll never know what the clown needed orange ash for," she mused, a sleepy, but amused smile still on her face.
