Talia wasn’t an idiot, she could tell the signs to move on to a different subject, and she’d never been the type to push strangers when they didn’t want to talk, so instead of a verbal response she made a small noise of agreement and focused on getting him mended. Professionalism and the comfort level of a patient, even in the face of monsters, was important to her.
It was difficult for her to tell if the smile was for show, or genuine, but at least it was something. “It’s more useful than you’d think,” she countered, only realizing after that if his sister wasn’t present at Sing Sing it may mean he wouldn’t be staying long. They’d never had many people just pass through, but it would be understandable if he didn’t find what he was looking for. “But you can suit yourself,” she added with a shrug.
She smiled at that and discarded the medical gloves, having finished patching him up. “I’ll make sure to let the rest of the staff know to let anyone asking for you right in then,” she told him. “I’m going to make sure you get some good painkillers too. You’re injuries will be more than a little uncomfortable for at least a couple more days, I think.” She pushed her ponytail back over her shoulder, and stood. “You won’t start any trouble in here while I’m gone, right?” she joked gently, already halfway to the exit.
