Denying that fact would be pointless, Zach was self-aware enough to realize that his skills at flattery was one of the things he had going for himself. “Spent years perfecting it,” he answered with a half-smile. Didn’t hurt that what he said was always the truth, either. “Probably a good medic? Darling, I’m the best.” It was obvious she had been teasing, which was why his words didn’t really have any bite to them. “Kind of like the whole, takes one to know one phrase.” Or at least that’s what he equated it to.
Right. He forgot that Jackie and Talia were friends. “That’s so true,” he nodded his head in agreement. His fellow medic definitely wasn’t a person people went forgetting. “And thanks, I’d say it’s all me, but she’s a pretty damn good doctor.” Which was more than he was, though people didn’t seem to mind much these days if your name had MD after it or not – just so long as you knew what the hell you were doing.
He’d never admit that growing up he wanted to be one of the X-men, granted that dream had disappeared by the time he was eight, still, the change in topic was amusing. “It’d be the coolest damn thing in the world,” he paused. “Granted I think you’re right in that if they are out there, they need to up their game here.” Because right now it looked a little bit like Zombie’s - 1 X-men – 0.
It was never lost on him that comments like that could go one of two ways, he was just thankful it had been received well, or at least hadn’t earned him a smack to the back of his head or anything of that nature. He knew he was an arrogant pain in the ass; it was a flaw – but not one he was working all that hard at getting rid of.
He stilled in his motion for a moment, tilting his chin back to look up at Jackie. “That’s good to know,” he remarked honestly, before continuing. “But in all seriousness, no, that’s not the reason I showed up for this.” Zach wasn’t that big of a jerk, he had honestly come here for the personal training. “If something further was to happen, that would just be a surprise perk.” As he spoke he began in on the next set of reps.
