Shifting his posture as he pushed away form the wall, Zach wasn’t even going to bother to answer her comment about passing on the question. It was obvious she was irritated and he had a tendency to not poke at people too much, especially not women who seemed like maybe they wouldn’t be opposed to using a switchblade to remove parts or more like a part of his body he was fairly fond of.
Biting his tongue, he kept from making some comment about asking for her help in the whole ‘fuck you’ department, Zach knew when he had gone to far, and clearly he had stepped over one hell of a line with her. Or maybe those rumors about her were true and she was just pissy because she hadn’t had any in awhile. Whatever the reason, he wasn’t going to continue to poke the bear, so to speak. “Don’t think I ever said anything about you getting off on it,” he pointed out honestly, disliking the fact she seemed determined to make him out to be some kind of bad guy.
Maybe his whole opinion of Bea had been wrong. She had seemed to be the sort of girl that could handle a bit of flirting, maybe even return it. Clearly he was wrong in that respect, because from where he stood right now she didn’t even seem like she could take a joke, let alone handle a little bit of harmless flirting.
Zach’s expression went from mildly amused to serious in a nanosecond. “And now I know that,” he answered her. Any hint of his good mood all but gone by this point, especially when she implied he had been treating her like an idiot. “Wait just one fucking minute, I won’t deny flirting with you, because fuck, what guy wouldn’t flirt with you? But I haven’t treated you like any kind of idiot.” If she could be brutally honest so could he. Truth was if he had thought Bea was an idiot he probably wouldn’t have even bothered to give her the time of day.
Still irritated by her words, and wondering if there was any damn guy around this place that could get under that ice queen demeanor, Zach trudged into the cafeteria and then the kitchen. He didn’t bothered to say anything further to her until she opened her mouth to ask him questions about what he needed to take back to the infirmary. After all Bea had made it pretty clear that talking to him was a chore she just didn’t want to have to deal with.
His pride was wounded, but he would bounce back. If anything he knew Talia was back at the infirmary and would definitely boost his ego back up if he spoke with her. “Nah, they’re not real picky when it comes to food,” he answered. “Although we need to grab something vegetarian for Talia, or I’ll never hear the end of it.”
