Two days later, and she was starting to really think that recon was a really reckless idea. It wasn’t going to stop her from doing it, but she could admit, at least to herself that on the list of things she had decided to do it didn’t rate high on the intelligence level. Vienna would probably bitch her out too. Maybe. Who knew what her baby sister would think about it, she hadn’t done enough dangerous things lately to get a good read on it. But, even with that hanging over her head, she was also getting a little restless at the idea that nothing was being done about the anonymous and fucking foreboding items being left for them. Evan seemed content to leave it alone until the shit hit the fan, but Bea had never been good about leaving things alone when it felt like no one else was doing anything about it. She didn’t want to wait until the fuckers were on their doorstep to make sure the compound was safe. On top of that she wasn’t totally comfortable with the idea of four of them reconning things. She didn’t really know what she was doing, and she’d bet money that neither did Rae or the twins. Though, to be fair, she’d probably judged the latter a little more harshly than she should have. They’d been younger than Bea when all this shit happened, and they had a point with the survival outside of safehouses, as temperamental as Lucas seemed, and as space-y as she sometimes thought April was they had to have some kind of skillset, right? Of all of them, and she’d never say it out loud because she’d never tell anyone else what to do, but after thinking about it she was more concerned about Rae than the twins. Sure, she knew that Rae had skills, but she’d been pregnant for most of the last year, and as much as Bea didn’t want to think it, that had to affect skill. She knew that Rae wouldn’t willingly put anyone in danger, but it was just one more thought to add to everything she’d weighed against the idea of reconning the possible group camped out there. Hell, it was possible that she was fucking weak link in all of it. But things were what they were, and she didn’t want to back down, because she really was tired of not knowing anything. She probably should have been paying more attention when she left the cafeteria, since she managed to clip the body going in on her exit, but she hadn’t been, so she offered a muttered, “Sorry,” and stopped to make sure the person she’d jostled was okay. She hadn’t hit hard enough for damage, but it was the right thing to do. |
