Kori smirked at the idea of Brandon trying to teach all three of them how to shoot. It was a funny mental image. “And you can only run so fast,” she pointed out. In reality, not a one of them would shoot him, not even if he really got under their skins. But it was fun to tease all the same. It was better than being uncomfortable around each other. She would take teasing and jokes over awkward conversation and tension any day.
“Probably drink,” she interjected. “Or shoot things.” Kori chose not to point out that Lilah wasn’t their by her own choice, but Leah was right, Kaija would forgive them. She seemed to forgiven Kori as well as Leah, Lilah and Brandon had for shutting down after Mike’s death. “It’ll be more fun with her. Kaija always brings the fun.”
Kori nodded. “I think I’ll let Laura do that, when she’s ready. It’s her brainchild.” She didn’t want to seem like she taking over. “And don’t get me started on those learning circles, Lele.” She scrunched her nose to punctuate her point. She’d wanted so badly to try and create organization in them, but she’d had other things to do.
It might not have been the most mature response, but Kori just smiled wide at her sisters accusation. After all, she couldn’t deny it; Leah had raised her, she knew all of Kori’s tricks. “Oh, poke fun, I’m generous enough to not hold it against you, Lele. Besides, I’d be losing a good volunteer.”
“Or maybe we should let him win,” she mused. “He never wins anything.” By choice. Kori had caught on a long time ago that Brandon usually let one of them win. It was cute, she appreciated that about her brother. Even if she didn’t always appreciate everything else about him. She could do without the over-protectiveness some days. “You know, just this once.”
