"Okay, so it's just a matter of not wanting to, then. And there's nothing you can do about that," he responded petulantly to both of them. "There's other hobbies. Absolutely no crocheting," he added. "And no stamp collecting or stickering or any shit like that." He had to make sure all of his bases were covered. "Guess I could get back into teaching shooting classes. Starting with you two. If you still wanna learn, Lele."
He sighed a sigh of the put upon when they told him that he sucked at plotting. "You guys are the worst sisters. I'm glad Lemondrop's not here, 'cause I'd be totally screwed. Even worse if Kitty was here," he said of their cousin Kaija.
Nonplussed though he may seem, Brandon did care, if it was important to his sisters. "I figure," he started, "we want to give them a slice of normalcy, you know? Give them that bit of life that they would've had before. Recess was always the time in school for me when I socialized. Well, I socialized plenty in class too, but for the smarter kids and whatever, they got their socializing and fun in playing with the other kids at recess, right?" Maybe he was wrong. Maybe it was a dumb idea. But if he had kids, he'd probably want them to have a normal life. Or as normal as they could nowadays, anyway.
Brandon looked at Leah. "I think you'd be a good teacher," he told her seriously. "You were the best teacher any of us had growing up." It was sentimental, and maybe a little stupid, but it was true.
"Hey, don't worry about it. It's a new project, right? Rome wasn't built in a day or whatever."
