Kori explained that the other kitchen girl, the one Brandon didn't really mind, had asked about a school for the older kids, and Brandon shrugged. “I don't think it could hurt,” he said simply. “I mean, I'm sure the ones with parents have learned a little bit from their parents, but having people who know stuff teaching couldn't hurt. What kinds of classes were you guys thinking about teaching?”
"And none of your things are that important, right?" Kori added, her tone matching Leah's. If Brandon really put any effort into it, she believed that he could learn. But the key to that was effort, and he seemed to be content with not knowing the simple life skill.
Kori had a hard time stifling her laughter at the back and forth between her siblings. Brandon was always plotting something, and she didn't believe that he'd ever develop a complex in regards to what his sisters thought of him. At the end of the day they might fight, or act like they can't be in the same room together, but the Stone family was tight, there really wasn't a whole lot that could break that. "You had plotting face," Kori told him. "You used to be a lot better about hiding it." And Kori had never been any good at keeping things from reflecting on her face. Case in point, the abysmal way she was losing the game.
At Brandon's antics, rather than the smack she knew he was expecting she kicked him lightly in the leg inside and gave him her Serious Kori look. "Stop that," she told him. "Or you're picking up the cards."
But he hadn't actually turned the table, and the ball of uncertainty that had started to develop, the tiny one that was worried the school was a bad idea started to evaporate when neither sibling shot down the idea. "Basic things, I think," she answered. "Laura and I haven't sat down to go over things completely just yet." It meant a lot that Leah liked the idea, given that it would affect Mari.
"I don't think we would mind having you there, or any other parents,” she assured. She definitely wouldn't mind Leah's presence. “We’re actually hoping to get a few more adults involved than just she and I, since we won’t be able to cover everything with everyone.” But Kori hadn’t asked around yet, and she didn’t think Laura had either, but she could be wrong.
