Leah snorted a laugh at Brandon’s insistence that he wouldn’t resort to ‘cheap chick’ methods. “In that case, you definitely don’t deserve lessons from Aunt Kori. As for being the only boy, you might just be doomed to live with that role for the rest of your life.” It was a subtle hint that she already knew what the baby was. “And anyway, one of my goals is still to catch you wearing one of those girly wigs.”
“That’s because you were early,” she said to Kori, a smirk growing on her face. “Early people always dress like crap.” What were older sisters for if they couldn’t give the younger siblings a hard time? “We always look better than Bran-Bran, without even trying.” One eyebrow arched when her brother played around with his made-up word.
There was some tension – more like discomfort – but Leah was doing her best to suppress it. “Simple. You already said it: you’re the only boy. What kind of sisters would we be if we didn’t torture you by denying you food?” One shoulder twitched in a slight shrug and she looked at Kori across from her. When she spoke up again, she was still addressing Brandon. “Maybe I’ll bake you something later. If I’m in one of my nice moods.”
Leah couldn’t help but grin a little. It was really sort of funny. They were about to play a card game and none of them were particularly skilled at it. Tonight wasn’t about winning, though. It was about quality family time.
“I’ve never had any luck with card games, so it’ll either be one of you two winning. So let’s get to it so I can start my card castle,” she said with a little chuckle.
