“Yeah, not up there on the list of great ideas,” Silas agreed. “Dunno if staying back there would of got us in any less trouble, though.” On the one hand it wouldn’t be a public setting, but on the other, there wouldn’t have been anything stopping him from doing exactly what he wanted. A both good and bad thing.
He wasn’t doing it for her gratitude, he might’ve ignored a lot of things that his grandmother drilled into him, but respecting people he cared about was one thing that seemed to have stuck with him. Aside from the stupid teenage years; he hadn’t respected much of anything through those. He liked hearing that she trusted him too, made it feel like everything was worth it. “The imagination ain’t getting much of a rest though.” He was close to admitting that Rae had seeped into his dreams, that part of him was always thinking about her. And yeah, it wasn’t always sexual, but some of it definitely was.
But that was the thing, it wasn’t just about sex. It hadn’t started that way, and it was really fucking unlikely that it would end up that way. At least for him.
It probably said something for his lack of self-control that he followed Rae’s order, rather than actually thinking about the ramifications. And god, she was warm and soft, and he really couldn’t help the way his hand inched up just a little. “That’s very true,” he agreed. “We’re all alone out here,” he gave her another sly grin before he wrapped his other arm around her back and bent to meet her kiss. He would never get tired of the feel of her lips against his, and the only thing keeping him from making the scene a little more indecent than necessary was a very small shred of realization that even alone, this wasn’t the place to get into anything. Maybe another time though; for the thrill.
He joined her laugh, raking a hand through his hair before he grabbed one of the sticks. “Aww c’mon, it’s not that hard,” he reasoned then lined up a shot to the far goal, laughing at himself when it just barely made it into the net. “Or maybe it is. So, yeah, the close goal,” he said over his shoulder as he went to retrieve the puck from the far goal.
Having something to concentrate on that wasn’t Rae was helping calm him down a little, and he was grateful for that. If things amped up any further, well, they might’ve ended up doing something they’d regret. Or not. Since he got the feeling they were both headed in the same direction, just, rushing wasn’t great. Not if he wanted this to last, he thought. But hell, he didn’t know if it would; she was bound to find someone better than him eventually. Not that he chose to dwell on that, mostly he tried to ignore it altogether, because right now she was his.
