“I knew she'd do awesome taking care of him,” Rae smiled a little. Kori had very maternal instincts, though Rae couldn't help but wonder if it was a bad idea for her to leave EJ in her friend's care. If she was taking advantage somehow. Kori wouldn't tell her. She wasn't like that. “You know,” she didn't want to take the conversation down this path, but her mind went there, “back after Elliot died, I'd considered giving EJ up, giving him to Kori and Mike. Because I didn't think I could do it alone. I'm glad I didn't, but... it just springs to mind, with Kori watching him now. I hope it's not harder on her than it looks. She probably wouldn't tell me.”
Rae nodded. “Save it for when we get back and mix some Bailey's in... I think I actually saw some in the kitchen, we were using it for baking, but we bake enough,” she mused. “We deserve a little bit of a splurge for our own sakes, and besides, I think I read somewhere that booze helps colds go away faster.” That was total bull, and she knew it, but she didn't care one way or another. “I should probably keep it to a minimum, in case Kori needs more milk before the end of the night, but... one sip won't kill me.” She smiled a little bit. “They do put wine in things,” she nodded. “Sauces mostly. And whiskey finds its way into cakes and marinades, so I bet there's some way to make a soup that's appetizing. I'm going to look through the library's cook books now. I'm curious.” And curious Rae usually meant good things, as far as the kitchen was concerned.
Babe. Rae couldn't resist another smile when he called her that. “Eh, you know, I'd be rocking the fleece, since it's not too cold out there, but I should probably bundle up double right now.” Unfortunately, because she had a form fitting fleece that would catch his eye almost as much as the New Years dress. “Marshmallows taste sweet though...” a coy comment, said with an impish grin, and she shrugged and started in the direction of the skating rink. She did spare him a coy over-the-shoulder glance, though.
“Thought so,” Rae wagged her eyebrows and resisted the urge to link arms with his good arm.
The skates were organized nicely, Rae had seen to that when they'd brought them in, and she gathered a size six figure skate for her, and an eleven-and-a-half, which was the closest they had to his size in hockey skates. She carried the boxes out under her arms and looked up at him. “Yup,” she nodded when he asked if she was ready. “Well, as soon as we get skates on, anyway,” she chuckled as she set the two boxes down.
“Why don't I help you put them on, though? It'll probably be kind of tough to get them on with the cast and all.” She nodded for him to sit on the bench.
