“How can I argue with logic like that?” Silas retorted dryly, an amused smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth. It would seem that even sick Rae just couldn’t stop herself from doing some things, now that she was feeling a little better. He gave her a baffled look at the reference, but didn’t ask about it, distracted instead by her mention of EJ. It had to be eating her up a little that she had to be so far away from her son.
“I saw him the other day, he’s doing good,” he hedged, a little uncertain if she’d be bothered that he’d checked in on EJ. Even if it wasn’t exactly checking in, he’d just happened to run into Kori one day. At least that’s what he was telling himself.
He gave her a long, considering look before he let it go and took the offered thermos. “With Bailey’s?” he asked, mostly joking. Skates and liquor would not be a great combination, even if his coordination was pretty decent. “The cocoa, not the soup,” he clarified, though he probably didn’t have to. Rae was good at figuring out what he meant most times.
Rae chuckled. “Unless you want to change or something, or come in and get warmer for a few minutes before we go, we can head out. I've been looking forward to this,” she confessed. “It's been a long time since I've skated, and it used to be one of my favorite things to do.” She used to test herself, see if her dance moves translated to the ice, but it had been so long, she'd be amazed if she could keep herself standing.
Aside form the fact that it as January, it actually wasn’t that bad outside, so he only shook his head at the offer to come in. “Nah, I’m good,” he told her, then grinned at her admission. “Me too. Been needing a little fun in my life lately.” He couldn’t resist the urge to drop an arm around her shoulders and pull her close for a split second, before relaxing and easing his grip a little.
“You’re totally terrible,” he commented as they made their way out towards the rink. “But it turns out it doesn’t bother me that much.” And he didn’t think the rink would be that crowded. Or he hoped it wouldn’t be. It would be nice to spend time with Rae without people watching the both of them out of the corners of their eyes.
