Things were, things were good. Better than good. Part of Silas was still waiting for the other shoe to drop, for Rae to realize that even casual, he wasn’t worth much effort. But that hadn’t happened yet and he wasn’t going to encourage it. Even sick, spending time with Rae was one of the things that he looked forward to lately.
It probably wasn’t helping the rumor mill, but then, like he’d told Rae after that shit had come out, let people think he was getting some from a hot blonde. He really didn’t care what people were thinking. The only thing that bothered him was the fact that Brandon probably believed it was true. Eventually that would blow up in his face and he knew it.
So, given Rae’s state for the last few days, to say he was a little surprised when he showed up and she was all bundled up to go outside would have been an understatement. But the look she gave him coupled with the smile, had him rethinking his automatic response to tell her that she needed to stay in her room. She had been feeling better, and he’d just end up feeling like a dick if he said no.
“Hey,” he replied as he cleared the distance between them. “We can go, if you think you’re up to it.” It was pretty clear she thought she did, otherwise she probably wouldn’t have put in the effort to get dressed for the cold weather.
“Don’t want to be the one responsible if you get sick again,” he added, only barely restraining himself from leaning in to kiss the top of her head. It was a sort of public place, and even if she felt better, he could still hear the congestion she was dealing with. “I can’t handle angry Kori faces, or lectures from the medics.”
