WHO: Talia and Jackie
WHEN: January 12th, 2020; mid-morning (slightly forward dated)
WHERE: Ossining
WHAT: Super Smasher hunting!
RATING: Medium (?)
There weren’t many places that Talia could say she loved nowadays. She liked a few well enough; Sing Sing certainly hit the top of the list of places she appreciated. But the one place she could already feel herself loving was the new lab. They had all spent time setting it up Thursday, and though she wasn’t sentimental, it felt like a new beginning. She felt at home amongst the equipment, like she’d been missing something she hadn’t even realized. But one thing still vacant from the set up – test subjects. First on that list, at least for Talia was the Super Smasher. A little bit like Ossining’s own version of Moby Dick, given that the zombie in question had been rather elusive. She and Jackie had found precious little information where they might be able to find it, but that hadn’t stopped them from searching. It was midway through Saturday morning, and although they’d seen their fair share of activity, there was still no sign of the one thing Talia was looking for. Though, to be honest, she wasn’t sure what she would do with it if they actually did manage to take it down. It would be the largest thing she’d studied by far, and that was only if they could get it moved. She chose to be optimistic about their outcome; they were resourceful, given the opportunity she trusted they could get it back to the warehouse with just a little effort. The upside of zombie gathering was that they didn’t need to be concerned with the state of their subjects while they picked off a few more. Rotting corpses were rotting corpses, no matter how you looked at it. A couple hours in the back of a truck wasn’t going to do them any harm. It was also lucky that neither woman had much of a weak stomach; a few of the corpses had been a trial to get into the truck. It would have been worse had they been trying to capture them alive –or what passed for that in zombie land-, but that was for another day. With the most recent subject squared away (a Leaper that had actually had some size on him and had tested Talia’s skill with her crossbow), Talia perched on the back of the truck and took a deep breath before a crash from the left caught her attention. It was a couple blocks off, if she was guessing right. “Want to check it out?” she asked Jackie with a barely contained smile. She couldn’t help that it was starting to feel like a scavenger hunt. A strange, sort of macabre scavenger hunt, but one all the same. “Think we still got some space in back.” There were only four bodies back there, and all of them were normal sized. |
