When she caught sight of him, her smile grew a little. He looked happy to be there, which was nice. With all that seemed to be going wrong lately, a little bit of good, happiness was a nice change. “You're definitely in the right place,” she told him, nodding her head and brushing a little bit of snow off the bottom of her jacket.
The reaction he had was... definitely the one she'd wanted. She felt his eyes on her, even before she turned, and while her back was still turned, she dashed her tongue out to wet her lips. When she turned around, she glanced down at herself, then back up to him. This was probably when most women would go off on a 'this old thing' tangent, but since Rae had actively been trying to impress him, well... “Thanks,” she told him, semi-shyly. “I seem to remember a discussion about impressing, so it seemed like a good time to put it into action,” she explained. “Besides, it's New Years Eve. Even if I'm not at a party, I always dress to impress on New Years Eve.” Cover her tracks just a little bit, just in case he was uncomfortable with the idea of her doing this just for him. Her smile belied the words, though. It more or less told him that it was for him.
“No dress code,” she shook her head. “You look fine. More than fine.” Sure, he was a little bit scruffy, and sure, he wasn't dressed formally, but that didn't mean that he didn't look good.
Not much for celebrating, hm? Rae nodded, sure that there was some reason for that, but she didn't want to pry too much. It wasn't her business, especially since Regan was Brandon's friend, and aside from Topher, all of Brandon's friends hated her. At least that was what she thought. His mention of wanting to be here made her smile genuinely, and she crossed the room, reaching up to hug him. “I'm glad you do.” She paused, then added, “I'm glad you're here,” before releasing him from the hug and giving him an all-too-telling smile.
She nodded her head. “He seems far different from the type that you and Brandon usually hang around with.” She paused, then cleared her throat. “That, um... probably sounded really insulting, but it wasn't meant like that. Just like... aside from you, all of the people Brandon hangs around with don't like me too much, so...” she cleared her throat.
At his offer to help, Rae shook her head no and nodded down to the extra-large sleeping bag she'd set on the floor. “Make yourself comfortable,” she told him with a little smile. “I've got this.” It was a way, in her head, to make up for being the reason he'd broken his arm.
Besides, Rae was good at setting things up quickly. And as a result, within five minutes, everything was set up; from the drinks and snacks, to the laptop and selection of DVD's.
She turned and looked at him. “What movie do you want to start with?” she asked.
