Pleasantville wasn’t really a town; it was more of a suburb or a village. But Silas and Brandon had cleared it as far as safety went, so he had felt okay taking Rae out that way. Better than staying in Ossining with the possibility of running into that Smasher. And despite all Rae’s talk about being a badass, he didn’t want to put her in a situation where that would get tested. He didn’t like the idea of seeing her in danger, and knew that if it came to a dangerous situation, well, he’d feel obligated to play knight. Not that he wouldn’t, but it was just smarter to avoid it if they could. As far as shops went, it was mostly little, local places, but they’d had some success so far finding things so it wasn’t a problem. Although, he hadn’t had much luck finding something for her, apparently he wasn’t sneaky enough to try and find a gift with the person present; but he’d have to try, he wasn’t sure when he’d get out to loot next, and he really wanted to be sure to have a gift for her for Christmas. He’d turned into one of those sappy guys without even realizing it. They were on the third shop of the morning, and the easiest to have gotten into. The backdoor had been left ajar by whoever had been through last. From the front it had looked like a little boutique-y/novelty place, so it was possible they wouldn’t find some of the things they wanted, like the lights, but it would probably be good for gifts. He hoped so anyways. And the time together was nice too. “It looks like a Christmas card in here,” he commented, amused, as they stepped out from the backroom. Also a little surprised, most places had had time to take down all of the holiday decorations even with the outbreak. “Maybe that was their deal.” They’d probably be able to find some of the decorations Rae wanted for the rink. |
