Not a fan of the New York weather. California girl? Florida girl? Wait, she was Marchand’s sister, right? So French. That made sense, Jace thought. He’d never been to France, but everyone seemed to hold the Riviera as some ideal vacation spot, so… yeah. “I also hear, if it exists,” and he didn’t think it did, “that there’s a world of torture in their too. I think I’d take freezing my ass off over that any day.” And it wasn’t that bad. At least they had buildings for shelter. “Never had much of a torture kink,” he smiled, not caring that most people didn’t throw statements like that out in conversation with a person they barely knew.
He could have crowed when she accepted the challenge. He might like entertaining, but he also liked to be entertained, and he could admire a woman that stepped up to a challenge. No matter how big or small it was. “These ear drums,” he tapped the side of his face, “they’re the only ones I got. I’d like to keep ‘em, thanks.”
Popping his neck absently, he hopped back up on the short wall he’d been seated on when George had shown up. “Whenever you’re ready,” he told her before he started to hum the beginning of the song, screwing with the tempo and slowing it down, tapping his hand against his leg in a makeshift drumbeat. He grinned to himself, watching carefully to see if she really could do better than he’d done.
“I got enough brains to go in before that happens,” he informed her with a soft huff of a laugh. “Just, like, being out here is nice sometimes. Getting out of four walls. Being safe enough to do that without worrying about being chewed on.” If there was one thing he never wanted to happen again, it was being chewed on by the undead. He might be immune, but that didn’t mean he wanted to stick his neck out and risk one of them just straight up killing him.
“But, if your precious body can’t handle it, you’re more than welcome to walk inside.” He hadn’t minded her company, but he wouldn’t be torn up if she left either. Probably, now that he knew her face, he’d stumble into her again. Maybe.
