After a marathon rehearsal that morning, George needed to see something more to look at than the same four walls she’d seen since nine o’clock that morning. At first, she curled up in a corner of the library with a heavy textbook that caught her attention a few days before. An hour later she hadn’t moved beyond the first three pages of chapter one. If that wasn’t a hint that she needed to find some other way to occupy her time, she didn’t know what was.
Heaving a sigh, she returned the book to the appropriate shelf and left. George wandered aimlessly once outside, not sure where she wanted to go. Skirting around the edge of the skating rink, George could understand Leah’s desire to get her hands on a pair of skates. It looked like fun from where she was standing, but it’d been years since she’d gone ice skating and she was far from okay with having a crowd watch as she got reacquainted with the ice. Another time perhaps, she thought as she wandered away.
Hands in her pockets, she kept walking, eyes focused on nothing as she let her mind wander. She still had to wrap her presents and record that CD for Luke. And on her thoughts went moving from presents to work that still needed to be done on the Nutcracker performance, to remembering she should probably check in with Nick about the stage, and contact Bea about potentially doing the make-up for the children. Rounding a corner George tilted her head as the wind carried what seemed like music to her ears and stopped. She waited listening for some hint that she was actually hearing it. Once it came she tried to make out the strains and when she couldn’t she started walking in the direction of the sound.
When she finally found the source to be a portable CD player and a redhead singing along she had to make a face at the music choice. She was much more of a pop sort of girl, classical when she needed to clear her head. Classic rock just felt so cliché. It was sort of hard to find it decent when the genre had been a mega fad in her high school.
“You got anything decent on there? Pretty sure the day is too good for Kurt Cobain.” She asked drawing attention to herself.
