It felt weird talking about Maddie at all, mostly because Nick knew that Caitie knew that she and Maddie were kind of sworn enemies. As much as Nick had tried to get the other girl to like her, nothing had worked and they were just destine to dislike each other, probably. “Totally,” Nick returned Caitie’s smile with one of her own, not really picking up on the way the other girl’s smile was strained – or maybe just ignoring it.
Talking about her own hair was a good distraction. Though she knew dye would have to be found, because hell would freeze over before Maddie ever shared with her. “Do you want some help? And probably blue enough that it shows up in my hair,” she paused. “Will dying nearly black hair be hard?”
“I don’t know, I mean I want to tell you that he’ll come back. But I have that same stupid fear that my brothers won’t ever come back here or find this place,” she was rambling a little bit so she paused to gather her thoughts. “We have to be positive though, you know? They’ll come back here, they have to.” Nick was letting her optimistic side show, even if she only sort of believed what she was saying. “It does suck ass.” She agreed.
