In all honestly Nick was surprised Caitie had even been up to doing anything. If her brother had snuck out in the middle of the night without leaving so much as a note, well, she would have had a really hard time functioning or even attempting to smile. But she wasn’t Caitie, and maybe the other girl was just better at handling this kind of thing.
Slowly, very slowly, Nick was gaining her balance again on skates. It was sort of like riding a bicycle, you never truly forgot. At least she wouldn’t wind up in the infirmary later. Some people might of tried to pull Caitie out of whatever thoughts she was in, but she just chose to let her friend think as she stared at the wall.
“Yellow seems so cliché, so I’d rather say that the happy smiley face pills were pink,” she paused for a moment as if in thought. “And darker colors like green, blue or red just doesn’t seem right.”
“I hate being alone, it sucks.” She huffed. Benjamin’s plan was stupid, even if he meant well in trying to bring Levi back before Christmas. “Maybe Chrissy got detained or something,” at least that’s what she had kept her own brother from making his way from the city. “And no, I don’t think it’s dumb to think that. But I don’t think he’s ditching you, I think he was just being a coward and avoiding a confrontation with you.”
